Just wondering

If given a choice, do you all prefer full screen caps, or wide screen caps. Personally, I prefer full screen for icon making, but I thought I'd ask because I'm capping a DVD that has both.

I prefer full screen for icons too, but sometimes they're so big and when I try to crop them they end up looking a bit stupid. At least when it's a close up. Like normally I cut from weird positions leaving room for text, so that can be a problem.

But I prefer full screen. ;)

It always seems, to me, that Full Screen warps the image a little.

Plus, the biggest difference? Sometimes you will miss little details in a shot (if you are looking for them) in Full Screen, as it shaves parts off the outside edges of the shots when formated for Full Screen.

ugh... always always always widescreen!

That supposed "full screen" is actually just 2/3 screen with the edges chopped off. Just make nice big widescreen caps.

I prefer widescreen because that's the full scope of the movie. Full screen actually cuts out about 30% of the filmed image, so that irks me to no end. To me, it's like going to the movie and having a curtain half closed in front of the screen. But then, I'm a film student. *g*

I have much love for widescreen. Full screen always seems to be slightly malformed, and besides, it chops bits out of the frame.

doesn't widescreen sometimes cut bits out of the frame? Like the top and the bottom? That's what This Site (http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/anamorphic/aspectratios/widescreenorama2.html") says (towards the bottom of the page, the Air Force One caps).
Sometimes that extra bit on the top and bottom is needed to fit everything you need on the icon.
I'll make them widescreen when I have the choice though, now that I know what people prefer.

i have to say i LOVE widescreen for no particular reason other than it just looks better to me and... somehow i feel like i'm "missing something" with fullscreen.

In the movie I'm currently capping though, Widescreen cuts out a lot more than full screen. I've already made about 200 caps in widescreen though, because thats what everyone said they liked. I guess it's too late now.
Here's examples of the different caps from the movie I'm doing (the color difference is because of my brightness settings):

I guess from now on I'll do one of each and compare how much is cut out, and whichever has the least amount cut out, I'll use.
