Question - screencap clarity

Ok, I've been thinking about buying PowerDVD to screencap with, but before I do, I have an important question.

At the moment I play my DVDs on the standard program that came with my laptop - I think it's called Mediamatics DVDExpress. When my DVDs play on this program they are quite grainy. It's watchable, but they aren't good enough for caps (and I've tried!)

Do you think PowerDVD would improve the quality of the visuals? Or is it the hardware that's making them grainy?
