Batch re-naming files?

This kind of borderlines on being off-topic, but I kind of didn't know where else to turn. And it does concern caps.
I just capped a movie, and seeing as it was no post for it in the memories, I figured I'd share it with all of you. However, the file names are all vlcsnap-xxxxxxx, which I suppose isn't all that handy for those who download the caps. Point being: is there any freeware program that can help me re-name these 1000+ caps to something more suitable?
