They really do. That second picture of Gena is extremely sad. It made me a tad bit teary-eyed when I saw it, lol. If you've seen the movie, I'm sure you can relate.

But the novel has the same amount of closure as the movie. At the end of the novel, they die, and they're together again, as young as they ever were. In the movie, they die together. Either way, it's the same amount of closure.
