Hallo! New member here. I have a technical question, and I hope it's not totally out of place. I want to make caps of my DVDs on my computer, and I have Intervideo WinDVD 5 for Sony VAIO. On InterVideo's website they said that WinDVD 5 COULD take caps, and that all I had to do was either click on the little camera thingie or press "p", and that there was a folder to store all of my caps. Problem is, my computer DOESN'T have a folder for screen captures, and my version of WinDVD 5 doesn't have a camera icon thing. Does anybody know what's up with that?

Also, I've tried making caps on Windows Media Player (XP version) by first pausing the DVD, hitting the "Print Screen" button, and pasting in Paint. Unfortunately, that didn't work either, because when I UNPAUSED the DVD, the picture in Paint "unpaused" as well (I hope that made sense!). Is there anyone computer savvy enough that could help me?!

I've heard that the Sony version of PowerDVD doesn't cap, and I know the Dell versions of PowerDVD and WinDVD don't cap, so I guess it would stand to reason that the Sony version of WinDVD wouldn't cap either.

I know some companies will include DVD software with some of their other products and it's usually a really bare bones version that doesn't cap and is probably missing some other features as well.

You could try turning the video acceleration off in Windows Media player like pessimist suggested, though I've had trouble getting WMP to play some DVDs, or you could try updating your WinDVD (I've heard this helps), you could try getting a less than legal version of PowerDVD or WinDVD, you could buy new software, or you could just find a free demo somewhere. :)

I've been having the same problems. Apparently, the Windows XP-version media player does not have a cap feature. The older versions did, but it was replaced with a "camera angle" feature.

Microsoft is oh-so practical... *sarcasm*

i was pretty pissed when i found out that my "video package" which was supposed to contain all kinds of good stuff for video editing consists of windvd super basic - which doesn't cap and a bunch of other basic software that do only basic stuff and if i want to get all the features i would have to upgrade all of them... a frickin' rip-off... that reminds me... i have to call and complain...

I had the same problem. I use my sister's computer to cap and she also has a VAIO. I looked in every subpanel and whatnot the program had and couldn't find a screencapping option. Then I used Paint Shop Pro to cap but like you WMP caps, when i played the movie the cap played also.

I eventually just bought Win DVD Platinum and installed that on the computer, which has the screen capping option. Because, the Win DVD that comes with your computer is specifically programmed for VAIO, I don't think it's included with it, like it would be if you'd bought the software.
